Volvo Trucks Donated a Reading Room to a Rural Elementary School

On September 25, 2020, Volvo Trucks donated a Reading Room to a rural elementary school located in Shaanxi, China. Seventy-four students benefited from this beautiful school library.

We were happy to welcome the Volvo Trucks team on this special donation day. They conducted two programs with the students; a short discussion on transportation safety and a STEAM literacy activity. After the library was set-up and the activities were complete, they played a football game with the children.

“I am so grateful for the many years of continued support that the Volvo Trucks team has shown to improving rural children’s literacy in China.  They are truly making the world a better place, one book at a time,” said Tom Stader, The Library Project’s Founder and Executive Director.

This donation will have a long-lasting impact on both the students and teachers. Reading Rooms provide an entire school with access to high-quality educational books. The content ranges from STEAM books (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), literature, comic books, environmental protection, and equality. The Library Project team also provided a comprehensive teacher training course for the teachers and administrators. We see this as essential to every library donation. Our teacher training course focuses on how to properly manage their new library and making sure it stays in good condition. The course provides teachers with ways to use books in their classrooms, how to work with other teachers to use their school library, and educates teachers on how to create a system for their school to allow students to check-out books to read at home.

Thank you to everyone at Volvo Trucks, the Shaanxi government, and the Board of Education for making this library possible!

Please take a moment and check out a few photos from this library donation.
