On September 28, 2025, The Library Project, with support from the Rotary Club of Chongqing, InterContinental Chongqing Raffles City, and KL International School of Chongqing Bashu, donated five Reading Corners to a rural elementary school located six hours from downtown Chongqing. This initiative provided access to age-appropriate books in five classrooms, directly benefiting 247 students. Five volunteers from the InterContinental Chongqing Raffles City joined the donation celebration, working alongside teachers and students as the new classroom libraries were introduced.

Reading Corners are a core program of The Library Project. Each Reading Corner equips a classroom with a curated collection of high-quality STEAM books covering science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. By situating libraries directly in the classroom, students and teachers have immediate access to resources that support both structured lessons and independent reading. This setup encourages curiosity, supports academic growth, and fosters a love of reading. For more details about the program, please visit our Reading Corner page.

In this school, Reading Corners were placed in five classrooms. Each library was designed to meet the specific needs of students, offering age-appropriate children’s books. The presence of these classroom libraries ensures that students can engage with books during lessons, breaks, and free time, while teachers can use them to enhance their lesson plans with supplementary materials.

The success of Reading Corners depends on teachers being equipped to use them effectively. At The Library Project, all teachers participate in a one-year teacher training program. Training includes strategies to integrate library resources into daily teaching, while ongoing monitoring and evaluation ensure that the Reading Corners are being used and that they deliver measurable impact over time.

Book selection for each Reading Corner is informed by The Library Project’s Book Content Core Values. These values highlight STEAM education, inclusion and diversity, environmental protection, girls’ education, promoting world peace, and nurturing the heart and mind. By curating books aligned with these principles, the Reading Corners not only improve literacy but also encourage students to think critically and engage with themes that broaden their perspectives.

“We are grateful for the continued support of the Rotary Club of Chongqing, InterContinental Chongqing Raffles City, and KL International School of Chongqing Bashu,” said Tom Stader, Executive Director & Founder of The Library Project. “Their partnership has helped bring classroom libraries to rural schools, giving children direct access to books that support learning and spark curiosity.”

The Library Project remains committed to improving literacy in underserved communities. With the support of partners such as the Rotary Club of Chongqing, InterContinental Chongqing Raffles City, and KL International School of Chongqing Bashu, more children will gain access to resources that empower them to learn, grow, and succeed.
