The Library Project is proud to announce that on September 15, 2025, two rural elementary schools in Shaanxi, China, received twelve Reading Corners through a grant from Applied Materials China. This donation directly benefits 813 students and 71 teachers, offering children access to books that spark curiosity and open doors to imagination.

Applied Materials China has supported The Library Project annually since 2009. Over the years, this long-term partnership has helped provide thousands of children with the resources necessary to enhance literacy, strengthen education, and foster lifelong learning.

Reading Corners are a core program of The Library Project. Each Reading Corner transforms a classroom into a dedicated space for reading by providing age-appropriate children’s books on a bright blue bookshelf. These spaces are designed to encourage daily reading, creating opportunities for both independent and group learning. More information about the program can be found on our Reading Corner page.

The impact of Reading Corners extends beyond access to books. All teachers at participating schools receive one year of training designed to integrate the Reading Corners into daily lessons. This ensures that students benefit from both guided instruction and independent reading. Additionally, each program undergoes regular monitoring and evaluation to measure usage and educational outcomes.

Book selection for Reading Corners follows The Library Project’s Book Content Core Values. These values emphasize STEAM education, inclusion and diversity, environmental protection, girls’ education, promoting world peace, and nurturing the heart and mind. By aligning with these principles, children not only develop literacy skills but also gain exposure to broader themes that build empathy and encourage critical thinking.

“We are grateful for Applied Materials China’s continued support of children’s literacy,” said Tom Stader, Executive Director & Founder of The Library Project. “Their long-term partnership has had a meaningful impact on students, teachers, and entire school communities across China.”

The Library Project remains committed to improving literacy in underserved communities. With the support of long-standing partners like Applied Materials China, we can continue to expand programs that provide children with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
