CMGE Donates Reading Room to Fujian Elementary School

September 19, 2025In China2 Minutes

At a rural elementary school in Fujian, China, 900 students and 62 teachers recently welcomed a new library into their school. The Reading Room, donated on September 10, 2025, is a space where children can explore stories, build knowledge, and experience the joy of reading together.

This was made possible through a grant from CMGE. Three CMGE volunteers joined the donation celebration, working alongside teachers and students to introduce the new library. Their involvement emphasized the importance of volunteerism and direct engagement in making literacy programs meaningful.

CMGE has partnered with The Library Project annually since 2017, and their ongoing support has made a lasting difference in schools across China. Their dedication shows a shared belief that access to books and educational resources is vital for every child’s growth.

Reading Rooms are central to The Library Project’s mission. Each space contains over one thousand age-appropriate children’s books, a globe, and furniture designed to promote both independent and group reading. To ensure sustainability, every Reading Room donation includes one year of teacher training. Educators receive tools to incorporate the library into their lessons, while ongoing monitoring and evaluation track how the space is used and its impact on students.

The Library Project’s Book Content Core Values guide every book selection. These values emphasize STEAM education, inclusion and diversity, environmental protection, girls’ education, promoting world peace, and nurturing the heart and mind. By choosing books that reflect these themes, each Reading Room becomes a platform for children to discover new ideas and perspectives.

CMGE’s continued support has enabled us to bring libraries and literacy resources to thousands of children,” said Tom Stader, Executive Director & Founder of The Library Project. “We are grateful for their partnership and for their volunteers who share in our mission to strengthen literacy in rural schools.”

The Library Project remains committed to improving literacy in underserved communities. With the support of long-standing partners like CMGE, we can continue to expand programs that provide children with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
