The Library Project’s August 2024 Online Teacher Trainings

In late August 2024, The Library Project conducted two online teacher training sessions to support educators preparing for the new school semester. Facilitated by Ms. Kong, our Senior Teacher Trainer, these sessions addressed topics to help teachers foster literacy and writing skills in their students.

The first training, on August 29, focused on selecting books for a classroom Reading Corner at the start of the new semester. Ms. Kong emphasized the importance of establishing a Reading Corner in classrooms and selecting books according to students’ reading levels. This session underscored how Reading Corners can provide accessible, diverse reading materials to support students’ individual learning needs. One hundred thirteen teachers attended this session, gaining practical tools to help their students begin the semester with the right resources.

The second training, on August 30, focused on helping students write their first weekly diary entry of the new semester. Ms. Kong provided methods for encouraging students to write about their summer vacations to ease them back into academic life. The familiar topic of holiday reflections can reduce students’ anxiety about the new school year while helping them improve their writing skills. Seventy-five teachers attended this session, learning strategies to guide students through their first composition.

“Teacher training is a critical part of our mission at The Library Project,” says Tom Stader, Founder & Executive Director. “By equipping teachers with the right tools and methods, we help them create environments where students can thrive academically and personally.”

These sessions are part of The Library Project’s ongoing commitment to empowering teachers in rural and underserved communities. Monthly online trainings are provided to all teachers who work at schools that have received a library donation, ensuring continuous support and professional development.
