Empowering Teachers Through Online Training: Selecting Summer Reading for Students

In July 2024, The Library Project conducted an impactful online teacher training session focused on selecting the right books for students during summer vacation. 106 teachers attended the session facilitated by Ms. Kong, our Senior Teacher Trainer. This training was a part of our monthly online teacher training series, which supports educators teaching at schools that have received a prior library donation from our organization.

The training provided practical guidance on selecting books tailored to the specific needs of students at different grade levels. Ms. Kong emphasized the importance of considering various factors such as students’ reading abilities, interests, and the quality and editions of the books. Ms. Kong provided examples of how to categorize books according to different themes and levels, ensuring that students receive reading materials that are both challenging and enjoyable. This training aimed to equip teachers with the knowledge to make informed decisions about engaging and inspiring their students during the summer break.

This training is a part of The Library Project’s broader mission to empower teachers in rural and underserved communities. Our monthly online teacher training sessions are designed to provide ongoing professional development opportunities for educators, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to make the most of their school libraries. These sessions are open to all teachers who work at schools that have benefited from our library donations, furthering our goal of creating sustainable, literacy-rich environments.

As we expand our reach, The Library Project remains committed to supporting teachers’ professional growth and enhancing students’ educational experiences. By providing training and resources, we help educators foster a love of reading and learning in their students, laying the foundation for a brighter future.
