The Library Project Provides Remedial Reading Lessons for Children in Tanzania

The Library Project is pleased to announce our first grant to Jiamini, a nonprofit organization working to expand educational opportunities for children in Tanzania.

The grant will provide five students with six months of remedial reading lessons, giving each student individualized support to strengthen foundational literacy skills and help them catch up with their peers.

Learning to read is essential to a child’s ability to succeed in school, but not every student develops foundational literacy skills at the same pace. In overcrowded classrooms, children who need additional support can fall behind and continue progressing through school without the reading skills they need.

Jiamini works directly with students who face these challenges, providing personalized literacy instruction designed to meet each learner at their current level.

With support from The Library Project, five students will participate in six months of remedial reading lessons. Through individualized instruction and ongoing support, the program will help students strengthen their reading skills, build confidence, and make progress toward reading independently.

Our First Project with Jiamini

This grant marks the beginning of a partnership between The Library Project and Jiamini expanding our support for locally led literacy programs in Tanzania.

About Jiamini

Jiamini works to empower young people through education so they can create their own success and break the cycle of extreme poverty in Tanzania. The organization provides individualized support to children and young people facing barriers to education. Its programs include literacy intervention, tutoring, scholarships, support for at-risk youth, girls’ empowerment, college pathways, textbooks, food security, and school infrastructure. Jiamini’s literacy program combines a dedicated curriculum with personal tutoring to help students who have fallen behind develop foundational reading and writing skills. The program also creates opportunities for Jiamini graduates to serve as tutors while earning money to support their own college education.
