Expanding Literacy Opportunities for Women and Girls in Pakistan
Learning to read does not always happen on the same timeline for everyone. Some girls fall behind in school, while many women never had the opportunity to develop strong literacy skills in the first place.
The Library Project’s new partnership with Sindh Community Foundation (SCF) will help create new opportunities for both.
A Second Chance to Strengthen Reading Skills
As our newest Global Partner in Pakistan, SCF will work with The Library Project to provide Literacy Programs and Remedial Reading Lessons for women and girls in underserved communities.
SCF has spent years addressing barriers to education in rural Sindh. Its work includes helping girls remain in school as well as operating literacy centers for women agricultural workers who have historically had limited access to education. Its six-month literacy model teaches practical reading, writing, and numeracy skills that participants can use in their homes, workplaces, and communities.
For girls who are struggling with reading, remedial lessons can provide something equally important: time and individualized support. By meeting learners at their current reading level, these lessons can help rebuild foundational skills, improve confidence, and make it easier to continue learning in school.
