The Library Project Welcomes Start a Library Trust as a Global Partner

At The Library Project, we believe that lasting impact in children’s literacy comes from strong, locally rooted partnerships. Today, we are proud to officially welcome Start a Library Trust as a Global Partner, expanding our shared mission to bring books, libraries, and a love of reading to children worldwide.

Based in Nairobi, Kenya, Start a Library Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to a bold and clear goal: a library in every school. Their work focuses on ensuring that children in underserved communities have access to books, safe learning spaces, and the support needed to become confident readers.

Across Kenya, millions of children face significant barriers to literacy. Many schools lack access to books, trained educators, and dedicated library spaces. In fact, only a small percentage of public primary schools have functioning libraries, leaving students without the resources they need to develop foundational reading skills.

Why This Partnership Matters

The Library Project’s Global Partnerships initiative is built on a simple idea: local organizations are best positioned to deliver impactful, culturally relevant literacy programs in their communities.

Through partnerships, we are able to:

  • Expand access to books and libraries in Kenya
  • Support locally led literacy programs with proven results
  • Direct more funding into programs rather than overhead
  • Scale impact through a partnership model that is both efficient and sustainable

Together, we will support programs such as school libraries, classroom reading spaces, and home-based literacy initiatives that help children read, learn, and succeed.

Fundraising for Kenya

You can directly support Kenya through The Library Project. A donation of $4 will fund one children’s book for a school library or a Children’s Literacy Bag. These books provide immediate access to reading materials for students who often have none at home or in their classrooms.

To support this work, please make a donation on The Library Project’s website and designate Kenya. Your support will help place books into the hands of children, strengthen school libraries, and expand access to literacy across underserved communities.

About The Library Project

The Library Project envisions a world where every child has access to a quality education, and that starts with literacy. Since 2006, they have benefited more than 1,000,000 children and teachers through more than 8,000 library donations. Their programs include Reading Rooms, Reading Corners, and Children’s Literacy Bags, all designed to create educational spaces where children can learn and grow. The Library Project is committed to measurable impact and continuous support for rural elementary schools, kindergartens, orphanages, community centers, and the home.
