Cummins Extends Support with New Donation Benefiting Fifteen Schools

The Library Project is pleased to announce a generous financial donation from Cummins, a longstanding partner and supporter. This contribution will facilitate the establishment of fifteen new libraries in elementary schools across China, slated for completion by the end of 2024.

Cummins’ commitment to The Library Project dates back to September 2008, making them our longest-standing corporate partner. Their support has been instrumental in our efforts to promote literacy and education in underserved regions. This partnership shows Cummins’ dedication to our cause and their belief in the transformative power of education and literacy.

Since the beginning of our partnership in 2008, Cummins has supported the creation of libraries in 24 regions of China: Hubei, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Xinjiang, Yunnan, Guangxi, Beijing, Sichuan, Henan, Shanghai, Chongqing, Jiangxi, Anhui, Hebei, Liaoning, Gansu, Heilongjiang, Shandong, Guizhou, Neimenggu, Ningxia, Qinghai, and Zhejiang. Through their contributions, we have been able to provide:

  • Libraries for 278 schools
  • Establishment of 149 Reading Rooms, 74 Reading Corners, and 55 Book Donations
  • Educational resources for 146,052 students
  • Training for 8,511 teachers
  • Donations of 300,859 Chinese language children’s books

Because these libraries reside within schools with new students arriving every year, we estimate that approximately 260,000 children have benefited from Cummins’ historical library donations.

A key factor in the success of Cummins’ library donations is the active involvement of their employees through volunteerism. Unlike other corporate donors, Cummins’ employees lead their library donation initiatives. Tom Stader, Founder of The Library Project, says, “This direct engagement amplifies the donations’ impact and fosters a deep connection between Cummins’ workforce and the communities they support.”

The Cummins team’s dedication and personal involvement ensure that each library is tailored to the specific needs of the schools and students, significantly enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of the literacy resources provided. This unique corporate engagement model exemplifies Cummins’ commitment to making a meaningful and lasting difference.

Cummins’ latest donation underscores their continued commitment to fostering education and literacy. We look forward to completing these new libraries and seeing their positive impact on students’ lives throughout China.
