Building a Love of Reading in Timor-Leste
The Library Project is excited to welcome Cocoon as our newest Global Partner, expanding our work to support children’s literacy in Timor-Leste.
Based in Dili, Cocoon creates educational opportunities for children and young people while building a strong foundation for learning from an early age. Its programs combine education, creativity, relationships, and community engagement to help children develop the skills and confidence they need to grow.
Books and Early Learning
Through our new partnership, The Library Project will support Cocoon’s literacy programs and donate children’s books to its kindergarten, helping young learners have greater access to stories and reading materials as part of their everyday learning environment.
Cocoon’s Kindergarten + Nursery serves children ages three to five through a bilingual English and Tetun program inspired by Montessori learning. Children are encouraged to explore, work independently, learn alongside one another, and develop curiosity through a range of hands-on activities.
Books will add another dimension to this learning environment. By placing engaging, age-appropriate children’s books directly in the kindergarten, we hope to give teachers more opportunities to share stories while helping children discover the enjoyment of books and reading from an early age.

Through our Global Partnerships initiative, The Library Project works with locally led nonprofit organizations to strengthen and expand children’s literacy programs worldwide. About Cocoon
Cocoon is a locally registered nonprofit organization based in Dili, Timor-Leste. Its roots date back to 2007, when its founders began providing English lessons in the Bairro Pite community, and the organization later expanded its work to serve children, youth, and families through a range of educational programs. Today, Cocoon operates a Kindergarten + Nursery, Kids Club, English and enrichment classes, youth programs, and other learning opportunities. Its approach places particular emphasis on quality education, character development, relationships, creativity, and helping children develop a genuine enjoyment of learning.
