STEM Classroom Libraries

STEM Classroom Libraries provide an entire classroom in rural Asia with access to high-quality STEM books (science, technology, engineering, and math). Our libraries go directly into the classroom, providing students and teachers with easy access to their library.

STEAM Classroom Libraries provide teachers with easy access to high-quality books they can use to supplement their lessons. These libraries also provide students with the same easy access. Students can easily pick up a book from the library inside their classroom during break time or before and after school. Having a classroom library gives students instant access to high-quality books in their language that is engaging, interesting, and educational. This encourages independent learning, intellectual curiosity, and helps spark a passion for reading.

The schools that receive STEAM Classroom Libraries are generally small, with less than 200 students. The classroom itself typically has between 20-30 students. Many rural schools, however, conduct half-day sessions. Often, one classroom library can impact two separate grades, meaning it can impact 40-60 students in total.

Teacher Training, Monitoring, and Ongoing Support

The Library Project provides a comprehensive teacher training course for the teachers and administrators at each library that is donated. We see this as essential to every library donation.

Our teacher training course focuses on how to properly manage their new library and making sure it stays in good condition. The course provides teachers with ways to use books in their classrooms, how to work with other teachers to use their school library, and educates teachers on how to create a system for their school to allow students to check-out books to read at home.

We have found that this training course results in 94% of our libraries being effectively used on a daily-to-weekly basis after the first year. The Library Project conducts one-year of monitoring & evaluation, and when schools need support, they receive additional training.
