The Library Project is pleased to announce a recent donation to a rural elementary school in Shaanxi, China, made possible through the support of The Learning Adventure, Chengdu International School, International School of Qingdao, and Tianjin International School. Together, their support made it possible to donate ten Reading Corners, creating new opportunities for students to access books and learning resources.

Our partner, The Learning Adventure, brought together the three international schools to make this donation possible. In addition to financial contributions, more than 100 students, teachers, and administrators volunteered in the classrooms that received the Reading Corners, directly engaging with children and helping to introduce them to their new classroom libraries.

Reading Corners are a core program of The Library Project. Each Reading Corner transforms a classroom into a welcoming space for daily reading and learning. Equipped with age-appropriate books on a bright blue bookshelf, these spaces create opportunities for both independent and group study. With a S.T.E.A.M. focus, these Reading Corners also inspire creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking. More information about this program can be found on our Reading Corner page.

To ensure the long-term success of this initiative, all teachers at the elementary school will participate in a one-year training program. This program will provide educators with the tools necessary to integrate Reading Corners into their daily lessons. In addition, the initiative will undergo comprehensive monitoring and evaluation to ensure both usage and measurable impact.

Book selection for each Reading Corner is guided by The Library Project’s Book Content Core Values, which emphasize S.T.E.A.M. education, inclusion and diversity, environmental protection, girls’ education, promoting world peace, and nurturing the heart and mind. These values ensure that the books placed in classrooms not only build literacy but also help students explore broader perspectives.

“We are grateful to The Learning Adventure, Chengdu International School, International School of Qingdao, and Tianjin International School for their support,” said Tom Stader, Executive Director & Founder of The Library Project. “Their generosity and active participation in the classrooms make a real difference, providing students with the resources and encouragement needed to develop strong literacy skills and a lifelong love of learning.”

The Library Project remains committed to improving literacy and educational opportunities in rural China. With the support of partners such as The Learning Adventure, Chengdu International School, International School of Qingdao, and Tianjin International School, we are able to expand access to quality resources and strengthen the role of S.T.E.A.M. education in classrooms.
