Hello everyone,
The past month has been one of the most successful months for The Library Project. There is so much to share - from Charity events to a new home in Xi’an, China - so let’s get started.
The Library Project has begun an amazing partnership with Aston English schools in China. Aston is one of the largest private educators in China with over 40 schools in 26 cities. Beginning this August, The Library Project will be partnering with Aston to provide 40 libraries to orphanages throughout China. Aston will hold book drives at their English schools located throughout China with the goal of raising over 400,000 children’s books. To learn more about this partnership, please click here.
As a result of this fantastic partnership, The Library Project will be setting up a field office in Xi'an, China in August. Xi'an is the capital of Shaanxi province in central-northwest China. For a map and more information on Xi'an, please click here.
St. Joseph's Charity School and Orphanage is this month's Featured Library. The Library Project has donated a small library to the St. Joseph's Charity School and Orphanage in Dong Nai Province, Bien Hoa, located an hour and a half north of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam. The orphanage is home to 30 children, age 1 to 18, and the school teaches up to 130 underprivileged children. The Library Project donated over 200 books to the St. Joseph's Charity School. The books contained a wide range of subject matter, such as science, history, comics, storybooks and a few ghost stories. All of the books donated were in color, of the highest quality, and supplemented the curriculum of the school. To see some great photos and learn more about this wonderful school and orphanage, please click here.
In the past month financial support for The Library Project has skyrocketed. I'm happy to report that we have received $3,500 in donations for the month of June. Most of these donations came from a charity concert hosted by the Glassmeyer family of Darien, Connecticut. Scott Glassmeyer, a member of The Library Project Board of Directors, gave a speech introducing The Library Project and its work to over 300 people who attended the event.
The Library Project is lucky enough to have two sets of volunteers work on raising funds and awareness through their innovative projects in China.
Todd Harmon, a Library Project volunteer, will be hosting a Miniature Golf tournament at the Dalian Heritage Festival benefiting a local library in Dalian, China. For every hole-in-one on the eighth hole (a very auspicious number in the Chinese culture), a donation will be made to the library. Thank you Todd!
Lonnie Hodge and David DeGeest, two American teachers, will spend the next year traveling to the 22 provinces of mainland China, giveing away scholarships worth 2 million RMB, and raising money through online advertising that will be donated to The Library Project. Their website, the China Dreamblogue, is a charity project designed to help people around the world achieve their dreams or their dreams for someone else. Thank you Lonnie and David!
For more information on The Library Project please check out our new home on the web at www.library-project.org. It has a wealth of great information about our projects and information on how you can get involved.
Your help is greatly appreciated. Click here to make a donation and help give the gift of education and opportunity to a child in Asia. As a result of your donation you will receive photos and a completion report on the library you helped make a reality. Your donation truly does make a difference.
The Library Project is a non-profit organization, therefore your donation is 100% tax deductible. Thank you in advance for your kind support of our efforts.
Sincerely,
Thomas Stader

Everyone at The Library Project is very excited to announce our partnership with Aston English in China. The Aston English partnership will benefit countless children throughout China. Over the next year The Library Project will conduct book drives within each of the 40 Aston English schools located throughout China. These book drives are projected to gather about 400,000 Chinese language children's books to be donated to local schools and orphanages. As well as the book drives, The Library Project will donate tables, chairs, mats and lighting when appropriate for each location.

40 Libraries!
In 1996 Aston opened its first English language school in China and now operates more than 40 schools in 26 Chinese cities as well as in America.
Because of Aston English's footprint in China, The Library Project has an opportunity to make a huge difference in a very short period of time. Aston and The Library Project will work together to build libraries in: Beijing, Dalian, Xian, Weinan, Xianyang, Xingping, Yanliang, Chengdu, Kunming, Guiyang, Chongqing, Jinan, Wuhan, Hanzhong, Baoji, Tongchuan, Yanan, Yulin, Dandong, Dongying, Xuzhou, Quingdao and Lianyungang.
This is an exciting opportunity for all involved. China’s Country Director Thomas Stader said, "This partnership is a great example of Aston English's commitment to education and the betterment of each community that they work within. We are all very excited about this partnership and the opportunities it presents to quickly build libraries in many cities throughout China."
In the coming months we will keep you posted on the growing partnership and accomplishments of Aston English and The Library Project. |

Xi'an, China
Xi'an is the capital of the Shaanxi province in central-northwest China. Xi'an is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China and is one of modern China’s cultural centers. Over the past 3000 years, the city has been home to 13 dynasties, including the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang. Xi'an is also renowned for being the eastern terminus of the Silk Road and home to the archaeological marvel, the Terracotta Warriors. Since the 1990s, Xi'an has become an important manufacturing, industrial and educational center of the Central-Northwest region.

St. Joseph's Charity School and Orphanage
St. Joseph's Charity School and Orphanage in Dong Nai Province, Bien Hoa is located an hour and a half North of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam.
Each year the school has the opportunity to teach up to 130 underprivileged children. The children attend the school until Grade 5 at which time they take a government exam. If they pass the exam, they then have the opportunity to enter mainstream schooling. For numerous reasons most of the children do not qualify for regular public schools due to lack of funds, having no ID card or falling behind in classes. About 25% of the children attend the school on only a drop-in basis because their families are homeless or they are orphans living on the streets.
The St. Joseph’s Charity Orphanage is home to 30 wonderful children. The orphanage is very well kept, clean and each child receives a healthy dose of love and care. In addition to a safe loving environment, all of the children receive balanced meals and regular health checkups.
The staff at St. Joseph's is simply amazing. Four Catholic Nuns along with volunteers from the local community take care of the everyday upkeep of the school and orphanage.
The Library Project provided St. Joseph's Charity School and Orphanage with over 200 children's books. The books contained a wide range of subject matter, such as science, history, comics, storybooks and a few ghost stories. All of the books donated were in color, of the highest quality, and supplemented the curriculum of the school.
