Frequently Asked Questions for Potential Schools and Orphanages

We need books in our school or orphanage. What is the first step?
The first step is to contact our County Director. She will get the process moving forward asap. Once your elementary school or orphanage is approved, it sometimes only takes two weeks before you will receive your library.

Do you provide books to middle schools, high schools or universities?
We are currently very focused on providing libraries to only elementary schools. To be more specific, we only provide libraries to remote elementary schools that lack the necessary funding for a quality library. To get a better idea of the elementary schools and orphanages that we are currently providing libraries to, please check out out Adopt a Library page on our website.

What kinds of books do you provide?
The Library Project provides a wide range of children’s books that include: history, science, short stories, fairy tales, books for very young readers, children’s dictionaries, children’s reference books, and an assortment of comic books. Each school also receives a full set of children’s encyclopedias for older students. Every book is in full color and of the highest quality.

Do you provide new or used books?
The Library Project provides both new and used local language children's books. Most of our library donations contain between 5-50% used books. We make sure that the used books we provide are "like new" and are of the highest quality. We provide used books for two main reasons, it gets the local community involved in improving their elementary school and orphanage libraries, and it allows us to provide quality libraries for around $1,000.

My school is very small, we have under twenty students in attendance. Are we too small to receive a library donation?
The Library Project focus on schools that have student numbers of between 4-100 children. This is because they tend to be in the greatest need of a library donation. Please email our Country Director for more information.

My company, school or group would like to organize a book collection. Is that ok? Where do we begin?
Absolutely. We have developed a very informative Book Collection How-to-Guide that provides a lot of detail on how to put together a book collection quickly and easily. The guide is meant to be a starting point for planning a book collection. The guide contains step-by-step instructions, posters ready for downloading, photos and contact information with Library Project staff members that are here to support you. Please click here to check out how to get started.

I'm tired of emailing charities and not getting a response. Are you really going to respond?
We guarantee that our Volunteer Coordinator at The Library Project will respond to your email. Please email in either English or Chinese, and allow about one week for us to get back to you. In most cases you'll hear from us in 24 hours, but sometimes we're all donating libraries and are away from the internet for extended periods of time.
